Chicago Taxi — EDA & Hypothesis Testing (Weather)

Exploratory analysis and hypothesis testing to understand taxi activity in Chicago and evaluate whether trip duration from the Loop to O’Hare changes on rainy Saturdays.

Find the top 10 dropoff neighborhoods by average trips (Nov 2017)
Test whether average trip duration (Loop → O’Hare) changes on rainy Saturdays

Data

Approach

Data checks: verified types, missing values, and basic consistency
EDA: ranked + visualized companies and neighborhoods
Hypothesis testing: defined H0/H1, selected alpha, and compared rainy vs non-rainy Saturdays

Hypothesis

H0: The average trip duration (Loop → O’Hare) is the same on rainy Saturdays and non-rainy Saturdays.
H1: The average trip duration (Loop → O’Hare) is different on rainy Saturdays vs non-rainy Saturdays.
Alpha: 0.05

Key findings

Top taxi companies: Flash Cab led trip volume on Nov 15–16, 2017, followed by Taxi Affiliation Services and Medallion Leasing.
Top dropoff areas: The Loop and River North concentrated the highest average dropoffs in Nov 2017.
Hypothesis test: Rainy Saturdays had longer trips (mean ≈ 2427s vs 2000s). With p-value ≈ 6.74e-12 < 0.05, we reject H0.
